Washington [US], October 11: US death row inmate Christa Pike, who survived a botched execution in Tennessee 10 days ago, has been discharged from hospital and returned to prison, her lawyers said on Saturday.
Pike, 50, is back at the Nashville prison where she has been held for more than 30 years, according to a statement from her legal team.
"She is continuing to receive medical care at the prison, and we will continue to track her recovery," the lawyers said.
Pike's execution attempt attracted global attention because she would have been the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years.
She survived an attempted execution by lethal injection on September 30. According to authorities, she was administered the two doses of pentobarbital prescribed under the state's execution protocol.
She was subsequently taken to hospital unconscious. Earlier this week, she regained consciousness and began speaking and walking.
On Wednesday, a Tennessee court ordered authorities to preserve all evidence related to the failed execution attempt, including intravenous lines, syringes and documents detailing Pike's condition.
It remains unclear whether the state will seek a new execution date.
Tennessee's Republican Governor Bill Lee has suspended further executions until at least the end of the year and ordered an independent investigation into the incident.
Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. She was 18 years old at the time of the crime.
Slemmer was tortured and killed in a remote area near the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
