Madrid [Spain], September 12: George Russell admitted he now needs luck to be on his side in his bid to wrest the Formula One world championship away from Kimi Antonelli.
Russell started and finished second at last weekend's Italian Grand Prix as Antonelli fought back from 19th to take an impressive win.
It marked the Italian's seventh victory of the season and Russell, who has just two so far, heads into Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix 66 points behind his Mercedes team-mate.
"I definitely need some luck and I need some good performances," said Russell.
"It is not something I am thinking about. Kimi is performing better than me and he deserves to be leading the championship.
"There is still a long way to go, but he is yet to have a bad weekend in terms of performance. He is performing exceptionally well.
"My performances are better than they were before the summer break, but if I am going to win the world championship, I will need some luck along the way. I am not focused on that. I am focused on driving faster."
