Havana (Cuba), April 26: Cuba once again reported more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19, with 1,185 infections registered as well as 10 deaths, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Sunday.
With these figures, the number of cases has risen to 101,503 and the death toll to 591.
"This shows the severity of transmission in our country," said the ministry's national director of hygiene and epidemiology, Francisco Duran.
Havana maintains the highest incidence rate in the country, with 408 cases per 100,000 inhabitants as the country continues to battle a new wave of infections.
Authorities have suspended in-person classes and closed down public places as well as put in place restrictions for international arrivals.
In Havana, the ministry is preparing for the roll out of Soberana-02 and Abdala, two Cuban vaccine candidates.
The third and final phase of Soberana-02 trials continue in Havana, alongside Phase II trials of vaccine candidate Soberana Plus, while trials of Abdala continue in the east of the country. Two other Cuban vaccine candidates, Soberana-01 and Mambisa, are in different phases of research.
